Socorro, New Mexico, population approximately 9000, is located one hour south of Albuquerque International Sunport on Interstate 25 in the Rio Grande Valley of Central New Mexico.  Though a small town, the proximity to Albuquerque (and, one additional hour to the north, Santa Fe) provides bigger-city opportunities to Socorro residents.  The arid Central New Mexico climate consists of four seasons, featuring short cool winters and warm summers.  Approximately 10 inches of rainfall are recorded each year, and this is divided between winter snows and late-summer monsoon rains.

The area features abundant and nearby outdoor recreational opportunities.  Activities such as mountain biking, hiking, bicycling, and running are easily accessible from one’s doorstep.  Other activities such as snow and water skiing are two hours away.

New Mexico Tech also provides cultural opportunities in the form of the Performing Arts Series
